What’s happened so far?
It’s been 18 months since I brought Utility Warehouse services into my business tool box and it’s been quite a journey. Many people know the reasons why NOT to get involved in the industry such as questionable commission schemes based on recruitment (not sales), whispers of pyramid schemes, auto-ships, alienating friends by spamming them with products or being sold a dream at the end of a rainbow that was never really achievable. Now I’m not easily swayed by what everyone else thinks. I’m prepared to form my own opinions based on the evidence and I am certainly ready to put the work in and do the research.
There is plenty of information available for research purposes. I tested the services myself first (always a good start) and then frank and honest testing with my Mother-in-Law which went surprisingly well overall. I visited Head Office in London which was extremely reassuring when you see the wealth of support, expertise and professionalism backing you up. Things changed a lot when I visited my first event. To see and hear from other people about how well they are doing and more importantly HOW to do it lights the fire in your belly!
I thought I needed the business for Quick Income. It was certainly a quiet time in my own Company and I saw an opportunity to fill the gap. This industry may eventually fulfil your long time financial goals but the chances are quite slim and on a par with any other type of career path. Only the hardest working, trainable individuals with a dogged commitment to perseverance and the purest mindset for the end-goal can enjoy the inevitability of success. Utility Warehouse has not disappointed me from a financial point of view, but the idea becomes much more as I have gradually become immersed in the process of building a network marketing business.
“Some people think (network marketing) is a matter of life and death. I don’t like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.” Bill Shankly perhaps?
So why am I in network marketing now on reflection? Let’s try and answer the headline now that I’ve peeped behind the curtain and I know what I know NOW;
Helping Others – “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” Zig Ziglar
Name me another industry where the ego is removed and there is a genuine benefit for everyone to win? The inherent political landscape to suppress others, deny promotions and envy the work of others is entirely removed and replaced with a culture of pure learning, development and support. Every success is celebrated equally, there is no hierarchy or inconsistency of wages. There are no managers only (a large quantity) of leaders. I’ve met dozens of peers who lead more effectively than most of the employees I have ever worked with. Not because of talent, but because they are free from the shackles of the establishment and encouraged to be thought-leaders and visionaries.
Personal Development – “The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.” Brian Herbert
Some people never pick up a book on personal development their whole lives. This is truly a sad state of affairs and serves to rob the world of so much potential. I was okay at personal development but have now changed my daily life into a gymnasium for the mind, from using headphones while running to learn to turning my car into a University. Not an hour is wasted during the gaps in the day to flood my mind with new ideas and perspectives on the world or business opportunities that may around me. Turning your back on learning from the best people on the planet is a glaring missed opportunity and hopelessly self limiting for those that choose not to plug in.
Reward & Recognition – “To win in the marketplace you must first win in the workplace.” Doug Conant
I love an incentive or a reward and this industry hands them out in spades! Incredible holidays and excursions, Christmas presents or smaller gifts are never far from the day job and some of them are truly life changing, particularly for those that live for life experiences. These are beautifully pitched to improve/stretch performance while being achievable with consistent and focused activity. These are of course extras on top of the already extremely generous compensation scheme.
So should you give it a go? Well that’s a tricky question and one for the individual to decide. Will it make you rich? Maybe one day if you don’t quit. Will it change your life for the better? Undoubtedly yes, because there is nothing else like it to truly help others, enrich your own development and feel great about your achievements and progress. Choose your Company wisely, choose your mentor, start with WHY you want this and then plug in and enjoy the ride – what is there really to lose?
