Could the network marketing industry work for me?  The answer is … Possibly.  I was introduced to this type of home-based business nearly two years ago and the time has flown by in a bit of a blur. It was such an alien concept and so different to anything I’d done before. Or was it?

Retail Manager

I was a decent retail manager and understood how to delight customers, so with the backing of a quality product/service it wasn’t too hard to market my service to prospective customers. I’d built up quite a few contacts over the years so there was plenty of people to talk to. All I had to do was get out there and show people.  Next – ‘Build a Team’ they said. Find other people that might just see what you see.

Build a Team

Not quite so easy – Particularly in the beginning when you only have a couple of customers and you don’t quite have the ‘social proof’ that the business might work for a potential prospect. The first few months were really tough and the reality is that not many come through the other side to enjoy the benefits of moving through the ranks in this industry.
There is also an element of faith in the system. Reaching a place of financial security will realistically take maybe a decade of focused effort. That’s quite a commitment and not for the faint-hearted.  It takes a rock solid reason ‘Why’ to sign up to a challenge for the long term and NEVER quit.

Secret Sauce

The secret sauce in all this is to selflessly help other people get what they want, whether that is customers, or prospective business partners.  Doing this requires leadership skills and consistently being there for the people around you. The good news is that becoming a leader is a learnable skill – if you’re prepared to put in the work.  It is an extremely dangerous position and naive to rely on the Government in this climate indefinitely bailing the individual out of their situation – this is simply unsustainable.  Eric Worre (NM leader) advises making a list of all the things you could do to make money, just in case the proverbial s*** hit the fan. This is good advice and this list should be extensive.  A home-based gig or network marketing business should absolutely be on that list.  It costs very little to get in, however be 100% ready for a rollercoaster ride of joy, pain, elation, frustration, excitement, disappointment, acceptance, rejection, development and more.

If it was easy – everyone would be doing it.  That’s why NM leaders are some of the greatest business coaches, mentors and speakers on the planet.

Proceed with eyes open – however never has ‘fortune favours the brave’ been more poignant!  You can see more at www.gadgetclub.co.uk/club page or check out my recruitment page at https://uw.partners/dean.horn/partner
